Teaching Methodology

Kitab at-Taharah

The main objective of this section is to acquaint students with the text. Consequently, it will be taught in a manner similar to literature: students will read the text, translate it, analyze complex and novel structures, and provide explanations. The teacher will then supplement with any necessary clarifications.

Remainder of the Book

The remaining portion of the book aims to foster familiarity and deepen understanding of Islamic Jurisprudence. The teacher will summarize the rules and offer explanations for the translation and meaning of the text. These rules will then be applied to real-life scenarios. Students are expected to independently grasp the translation and analyze the structure (tarkib). Furthermore, they should take ownership of their own revision and recapitulation, as the teacher will not conduct a daily collective recap.

Study Methodology

Text Book

Students are strongly encouraged to obtain the Maktabah al-Bushrā edition containing the footnotes of al-ʿAllāmah al-Lakhnawī. This is the edition used throughout the course, and the teacher will regularly refer to its footnotes during lessons.

Preparation Before the Course

Read the muqaddima from the Maktabah al-Bushra print (Page 7-22)

Basic Study

Before each lesson, complete standard muṭālaʿah.
After each lesson, complete standard murājaʿah.

Advance Study

Read as much of the ḥāshiyah in the provided edition as possible.

This contains the essential points found across the major commentaries and is therefore one of the most beneficial resources for day-to-day study.

Students who wish to undertake additional study are generally encouraged to look further ahead in the text rather than immediately consulting numerous other commentaries.

As specific issues and discussions arise during the course, the teacher will recommend appropriate works for further muṭālaʿah where beneficial.
