Teaching Methodology

Kitab at-Taharah

The main objective of this section is to acquaint students with the text. Consequently, it will be taught in a manner similar to literature: students will read the text, translate it, analyze complex and novel structures, and provide explanations. The teacher will then supplement with any necessary clarifications.

Remainder of the Book

The remaining portion of the book aims to foster familiarity and deepen understanding of Islamic Jurisprudence. The teacher will summarize the rules and offer explanations for the translation and meaning of the text. These rules will then be applied to real-life scenarios. Students are expected to independently grasp the translation and analyze the structure (tarkib). Furthermore, they should take ownership of their own revision and recapitulation, as the teacher will not conduct a daily collective recap.

Study Methodology

Text Book

The Institute has prepared its own edition of the text, incorporating a revised layout and explanatory footnotes. Students are encouraged to use this edition, as it is the version used throughout the lessons.

Preparation Before the Course

Attempt to read the تَرْجَمَة المُؤَلِّف (author's biography in Arabic) from the maktabh al-Bushrā print which is approx. 4 sides
Reading Pages 25-36 from this document.
Attempt to working through the first chapter, فَرَائِضُ الْوُضُوءِ.

The objective is not to understand every detail perfectly, but to become familiar with the style of the text and develop confidence in approaching it. Focus on translating the text, understanding the tarkīb, and grasping the overall meaning. If you encounter a difficult sentence or grammatical structure, simply mark it and continue. Avoid spending excessive time on any single point.

Basic Study

Before each lesson, complete standard muṭālaʿah.
After each lesson, complete standard murājaʿah.

Advance Study

Before starting a new Kitāb e.g Kitab at-Taharah, look through the upcoming abwāb (chapters) to gain an overview of the topics that will be covered.
Before beginning each bāb, read through the headings and subheadings. This provides a framework for the lesson and makes it easier to understand how the topics relate to one another.
Read as much of the ḥāshiyah in the provided edition as possible. Even if every point is not fully understood, becoming familiar with the explanations and style of the commentary will prove beneficial.

Notes

After completing each chapter, the text should become a trigger for the knowledge you have acquired. By simply reading through the chapter, you should be able to recall the main concepts, explanations and discussions covered in class. The objective is not to memorise every ruling or explanation independently of the text, but to become so familiar with the chapter that the text itself prompts and refreshes your understanding.
