Tafseer an-Nasafi

Study Methodology

As Tafsīr al-Nasafī draws significantly upon al-Kashshāf of az-Zamakhshari, as does Tafsīr al-Bayḍāwī, students wishing to further understand or clarify the text are advised to consult the following works:

1. Tafsīr al-Bayḍāwī – as the first point of reference for further explanation and clarification.

2. al-Kashshāf – for further investigation into the source and background of many of al-Nasafī's explanations.

3. Futūḥ al-Ghayb of al-Ṭībī رحمه الله – particularly where passages or discussions in al-Kashshāf require further explanation.

4. Zād al-Masīr of Ibn al-Jawzī رحمه الله – for consulting the various opinions transmitted regarding the interpretation of an āyah.

5. al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr of Ibn ʿĀshūr and Rūḥ al-Maʿānī of al-Ālūsī – for more extensive and detailed tafsīr discussions.

Students who understand Urdu are also strongly encouraged to refer to Bayān al-Qurʾān of Mawlānā Ashraf ʿAlī Thānwī رحمه الله.
