Online Classroom Etiquette

Students attending classes online should also ensure that they adhere to the etiquettes of acquiring knowledge just as they would in a physical classroom. This includes sitting respectfully, dressing appropriately, remaining attentive throughout the lesson, and avoiding unnecessary distractions.

Students should be seated in a suitable learning environment and conduct themselves in a manner that reflects respect for their teachers, fellow students and the knowledge being studied. 

Study Setup

Location

We strongly recommend studying in a quiet environment free from background noise and distractions.

PC, Laptop or Tablet

A PC, laptop or tablet with a reasonably sized screen and a stable internet connection are essential for online study.

A mobile phone alone is not considered sufficient for online learning.

There are no specific recommendations regarding the make or model of computer or tablet.

Microphone

The built-in microphone on your device is can suffice for online lessons. 

However, a good-quality noise-cancelling microphone with an easily accessible mute/unmute button is strongly recommended.

A noise-cancelling microphone reduces background noise, making it easier for teachers and fellow students to hear you clearly. A dedicated mute/unmute button also allows you to respond quickly when called upon during the lesson without needing to use the on-screen controls.

Printer

Students will require access to a printer for classwork and examinations.

Each examination paper is typically around three A4 sheets (six printed sides).

A student in year 1 could expect to print approximately 60 printed sides of paper for exams for the entire year.

Camera

The built-in camera on a laptop or any standard webcam is sufficient for online lessons. There is no requirement to purchase a specialized or high-end camera.

Sisters are not required to use cameras during classes.

Recordings

Student engagement is a key feature of our classes. Through discussion, questioning and classroom exercises, both onsite and online students actively participate in the learning process.

For this reason, Al-Qalam Institute does not provide recorded lessons.

Regular attendance is therefore essential. Students who miss a class should review the missed material with classmates and take the necessary steps to remain up to date with their studies.
